About Me

Akshita Desore

My journey with Expressive Arts Therapy began in 2017 when I started my masters education at Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts. I entered the program with a passion to learn the intersection of arts and psychology and ended up staying in Massachusetts for 6 years. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I have worked at one of the leading grief and bereavement centers for families – The Children’s Room and with diverse clinical populations at mental health clinics in America & India, ranging from mood disorders, grief/loss, and anxiety to complex trauma.

In the past decade, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the best supervisors and professors in the field of grief/loss and trauma and have continued education in trauma focused expressive arts therapy through the Trauma-Informed Practices and Expressive Arts Therapy Institute by Dr. Cathy Malchiodi.

As a Level-2 certified trauma informed practitioner and a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist (REAT), I engage with clients from an evidence based approach with arts at the core of my work.

In my private practice, I provide mental health services both in person and online for adolescents and adults. I am deeply passionate about working with immigrants, and exploring the inner narratives and stories we carry within us, stories that often reflect in our relationship with ourselves and the world around us.

Art, quite aside from any questions of skill or its lack, is the emotion, the expression of one's life exactly as it is. It gives our feelings voice and form. That is why it is impossible to separate a fully human life from art." ~ Daisaku Ikeda
